Mr. M is 24 years old and has Cerebral Palsy, which is a movement disorder involving all extremities. It has always been a challenge to find activities that Mr. M could do that would keep him physically fit. It was during one of his physical therapy sessions that we saw Mr. M on a MOTOmed.
He was very excited to show us how it worked. We, too, were excited because he had finally found an exercise that he enjoyed and one which gave him a good physical work out. We knew that Mr. M’s insurance would never pay for this type on equipment, so he didn't get his hopes up.
It was during the Christmas holiday season that we found out that his Physical Therapist had submitted his name to the Season of Sharing to purchase a new MOTOmed.
Mr. M was featured in the Oregonian newspaper and the donations poured in from the readers. He was one of several individuals that were featured in the Season of Sharing section of the paper.
Mr. M’s MOTOmed arrived in January and he loves it!

I am writing today to give you testimony to what this machine has meant to me over this period of time. I use the MOTOmed everyday, even while I am busy working on my computer. I go for physical therapy twice a week to Good Shepard Rehabilitation Hospital and to water therapy twice a week at the Rodale Aquatic Center, in a special MS class. I find, especially after these sessions, the MOTOmed helps me relax and control spasms as a result of my workout sessions. During the past two years, there have been times when weather or transportation have prevented me from being able to attend my therapy sessions. The MOTOmed has proben to be invaluable, especially during those times, as it has afforded me the opportunity to maintain my level of ability, even when outside rehab is not possible.
I am writing to give testimony to the physical condition I have been able to maintain through its use. I not only feel better, but my level of energy and stamina is so much improved. Before use of the MOTOmed, I had edema of my lower extremities and much muscle loss as well as spasms and muscle tonicity. I no longer suffer from edema of my extremities. I have regained muscle tissue and strength. My energy level has increased and I am able to have better control of the spasticity caused by my diagnosis of Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis. I also feel I have reduced the incidence of bladder infections having had only two incidents in the last two years. More importantly, I have not had to be on any anti-spasm medication over the last two years. This has been invaluable to me sincve medical muscle relaxants practically keep me bedridden with no energy level and have caused edema, in the past when I have been on them. Physical examinations by my neurologist and urologist have resulted in good reports following my visits with them.
Moreover, having earned a doctorate in Neuroscience, I am acutely aware of the disease process and the benefits of therapy with the MOTOmed. My educational background affords me insight into the progress of the disease and has enabled me to testify to its benefit in helping me retard its progression. I think it is important to mention that I am on no drug therapies and have not been on any since starting with my MOTOmed equipment.
I hope that my testimony in some way will help get the message out about the real benefits the MOTOmed can provide to so many people; people who are in need of such long term therapy.

"I don't know to thank you guys. The MOTOmed is working wonders. When I received it I could only do passive motion at 15 RPM and only for 15 minutes. I could not move the pedals in Servo cycle mode at all. I now start with passive at 35 RPM for 6 minutes in each direction to warm up and then I switch to Servo cycle gear 1 for 3 minutes then up to gear 2 for 1 minute, reverse again, 1 minute at gear 1 in the new direction then 1 minute in gear 2 and finish with 2 minutes in gear 1. I have made this progress in 1 month, and to be honest, I have not pushed it as I did not want to overdue it and then have to lay off.
I would again like to thank all of you and please pass my thanks on to Doug Tuttle and Tim Roush whom I know had a big part in getting this equipment for me. Between the MOTOMed, the Liko lift, and the wide hospital bed, the quality of my life has improved significantly.
And to top it all off, thanks to Kent, I passed my driving test yesterday with flying colors. It's like I am living in a whole new world. Again, please pass my thanks along to anyone I may have missed or who was being the scenes."
